Literacy Activities

Yowzers!!! It seems like it has been FOREVER since I've blogged.  Okay, okay...I know I exaggerate, but it has been just under two weeks.  Yikes!!!

It's all good though.  I have been working on my biggest creation for TPT yet.  This one started to be around 70 pages but I edited it down...just 59 pages.  That's a record for me.  What makes it worse is that I was just about to publish it and I had a woman moment...you know, I changed my mind. Hahaha.  Right before I thought it was done, I changed most of it...not the content but the presentation.  I just wasn't happy with the way it looked.  But now I think I like it...nah, I know I like it.
Da duh duh dahhhh...It's a Superheroes Literacy Collection.  I think it is super cute and I really think it will appeal to boys.  I even let my monkeys have some input.  They have actually noticed that some of the activities I have been using with them have my blog address at the bottom.  SO one day during an inside recess, I used it as a "teachable moment" (different from a woman moment you know~LOL).  I talked to my kids about creativity and hard work.  When I showed them what I was working on, they asked me to include specific activities and games that they liked.  I just couldn't say no, soooo here is a collection of some literacy~spelling, alphabetical order, graphic organizers, etc~ things (okay, I'm just tired of using the word activities and just can't figure out which other word to use). You can grab this unit here at my Teachers Pay Teachers Store. I hope you and your little guys enjoy it!

Daily Schedule Book for Autistic & Special Needs Kids

This year, I have the pleasure of working with a very special little girl.  She has Autism. I adore her and so do all of my students.  This is only the second time in my career that I have worked with an identified Autistic child.  I do believe I have had other Spectrum kids, but they were not identified and I certainly am not qualified to officially label them as such.
Working with both of these kids has really been great.  As a matter of fact, my friend and colleague, who happens to be our Special Education teacher, and I have been playing with the idea (fantasy maybe more like it) of starting some kind of program for Autistic children in our area.  Not sure if it will ever be reality, but for now I guess we can dream.
Anyhow.... one thing I have learned is the importance of these kids knowing their schedule, their expectations, and knowing when they are done with their tasks.  I have created this book that you can grab at my Teachers Pay Teachers store. There is some assembly required, but I do think it will prove to be a valuable tool.

Cowabunga- The Wild Wild West

I know that some of you readers out there in Blogger World may not be aware of this, but it's Stock Show Time!!!  Every January in Denver, the National Western Stock Show is held.  It's a huge show, expo, rodeo, event, etc... that celebrates everything cowboy.  It's a fun time of the year to celebrate the western heritage and lifestyle.  Personally, I LOVE it.  My alter-ego is a cowgirl.  I've shared pictures of my horses.  My hubby is all about cattle too.  So I just can't resist to share a little bit of my cowgirl lifestyle with my monkeys.  One of my teammates~Emily~ is just like me~she's a cowgirl and her hubby and boys are all about cattle.  So together, we have an awesome time this time of year.  I put together some of the activities-including lots of books that we use. You can grab it here at my TPT store.  Yeehaw!!! And Happy Trails!!!

Fractions Unit

Well I am trying to stay one step ahead of the game.  I did my 100s Day Unit a couple weeks early.  Now I have my fraction resources ready.  You can get this cute unit here at my Teachers Pay Teachers store. I think it turned out pretty cute.  I can't wait to print it and get it laminated. Yay!!!

Hooray! I figured out how to make a preview.  Okay, okay, I'm not really dumb computer illiterate, I just take my time since I am self taught....That's right, I've never taken a formal computer literacy course.  I think I do alright (I guess).

Common Core Widget

Well isn't this nifty!?!  I was blog-hopping (one of my new favorite things to do) through Teaching Blog Addict.  Being new to blogging, I am looking for ways to keep growing.  So of course, one of my favorite parts is the blogging tips part of TBA. Aaaannndddd, I clicked on www.time4kindergarten.com's blog and came across this cool new (to me at least) tip.  It is this Common Core Widget that you now see on the right side of my blog.  You can get your own widget at www.masteryconnect.com/widget.

Snowmen...Melted

I know, I know, I was whining about winter in my last post.  And I ask you this...what happened today?!?  So maybe you can't possibly know...but it was like I said.  We had wind, we had cold and we had a tiny bit of snow...just enough to annoy, but not even enough to have fun in.  Aaarrggghhhh!

But alas...more cute stuff.  This time I made the melted snowmen you have been seeing all over Pinterest.  I had my kids write about them.  Hopefully the writing picture is clear enough (I suppose I could scan it, but I already hung them in the hall).

I loved how they turned out.

Penguin Door Decor

So personally, I am not a huge fan of winter.  I think it comes from growing up in an area known for snow-Buffalo NY.
I can do without snow, wind and cold-even if we do need the moisture.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature has other ideas...we get cold...we get wind...but we just don't seem to get enough snow for a snow day. (If I could figure out how to insert emoticons, I would insert a pouty face here-LOL.)

At least winter is chock-full of cute ideas.  I couldn't resist sharing my door decoration: my giant penguin.  Okay, maybe I'm the only first grade teacher out there who derives pleasure from making cute things.  My husband thinks I'm just plain dorky.  It's okay though, I accept my "dorkiness."
It does look like a penguin~doesn't it?!? Our custodian asked me what it was and I thought-well duh-penguin; but now that I look at the picture.......naahhhh-it's definitely a PENGUIN!!!!

100 Days

I know it's hard to believe, but we are quickly closing in on the 100th day of school.  My niece & nephews back in New York won't get there for a while yet, but out here in Colorado it's right around the corner.  I put together this little activity packet to celebrate the 100th Day.  It includes things that I have been doing for a ton of years (if years had weight that is).  I redesigned them to update them, to put it all in one place (and to just make them cute).  I have it available here at my Teachers Pay Teachers store. I hope you enjoy it!
