Tickle and Buddy's Last Few Days

Well Tickle has left the building and Buddy went with him.  I told my students that they had to return to the North Pole a week before Christmas to help Santa for his last minute gifts.
So here is what's they were up to the last few days:

Here are a few of my kiddos eating their snowman poop!

Here they are swinging like George of the Jungle.  Watch out for that tree Tickle!

And here are my first graders with their reindeer antlers and noses.

More of the Elf and his Buddy

Tickle's friend the snowman is back this week. He has been given the name of Buddy.  Monday Tickle rescued Buddy from the jaws of our evil goldfish.  Buddy decided to go for a swim and Tickle "fished" him out.

Today the kids found Tickle and Buddy stuffed into a conch shell I keep on my desk.  Everyday Tickle leaves a note with some kind of clue of how to find him.  Today's note said "I think I hear the ocean,  Buddy!" My students are convinced the ocean is inside the shell.  Some of the kids asked if the shell was real.  I told them it was (I got it on a trip to Florida a billion years ago...okay maybe I exaggerate a little) and they were worried that the animal that lived in the shell was still alive and would eat Tickle and Buddy. I love the innocence of kids.
Tomorrow they'll find Tickle and Buddy riding my zebra pillow pal.

The Elf and the Chocolate Spa

So after the long weekend, Tickle needed some spa time.  But for an elf, that means sweets, and lots of it. So when he got back to school, he had a few bandages on from his rough weekend and had an M&M bath as well as some prescription Hershey Kisses.
Then today, he found his long lost buddy, the Snowman.  They were up to some mischief and got tangled in some sparkles. The kids found the snowman holding onto Tickle while he dangled upside down.

Tickle's troubles

So Tickle had a fun weekend.  He had some adult time on Friday evening at out teacher Christmas party at my house.  It was way too much fun, if that is possible.   Tickle did some funny things as well as some inappropriate things.  I'll share the fun things.  To save Tickle's reputation, the really really naughty evidence got deleted.  Here are a few pictures from the party...

We had a true white elephant gift exchange too. Tickle met a new but creepy friend.  It hope he never comes for a visit again, but with our staff, you ever know.

Elf Mischief..or maybe Mrs. Gorman Mischief

So I was perusing Pinterest...I mean who doesn't when they have a ton of things to do? RIGHT?!?!?!
Anyway, I came across this teacher humor and remembered doing this following directions quiz when I was a kid in school.  I failed it by the way. Sooo, of course I couldn't resist to make my own.  I took the libertiy to use the idea but change some of the questions to make it my own.  I also added a a few embellishments just because I can't do ANYTHING without making it cute.  I am going to do it tomorrow with my fourth graders.  Let's see how they do!  Give me a holler if you'd like it in a pdf!

Tickle goes for a walk

Tickle is having as much fun as the kids.  Today they came in and found him being dragged around by the giant stuffed dog.  The same thing happened last year but it was a hit so he had to do it again.  Unfortunately one of my students tripped over him and sent Tickle flying.  It was so cute because I went to him and picked him up to comfort him.  I wrapped him up in my knit cap and put him in my bag.  The kids asked if I would take him to the doctor.  I said I would give him first aid when I got home and wait for Santa to come get him.  Then my phone went off with my email sound (which happens to be sleigh bells...which the kids think is Santa checking I with Tickle). It was perfect.
Little do they know that Tickle is coming home but I am hosting our building's Christmas party.  I am expecting him to have some adult fun.  Let's see what mischief he can get into with a bunch of rowdy teachers who are ready for the weekend after a week of inside recess because of subzero temperatures. Hee hee.

Tickle the Elf

It's a ton of fun when my students come in and immediately search for Tickle.  This morning he left a note that said, "Wee, I'm flying."
So my room is decorated like a "safari" of course.  Hanging from the ceiling I have an upside down Beanie  Baby bat. The kids were convinced that the nocturnal bat swooped down in the night and Tickle grabbed on for a ride and was hanging with the bat for the day.  It was sooooo cute.

Tomorrow they'll find him knocked over drinking a bottle of 7Up that I keep in my room to remind students to write  "7Up Sentences", that is sentences with 7 or more words in it.

The Elf is Back

He's baaack!!!
Oh yay! So many things to celebrate. Tickle has returned.  He arrived this morning and my kids are so excited. Even my third and fourth grade students think he's pretty cool.  Today when we got back from our thanksgiving break the decorations all changed.  And Tickle was busy...I told my kids that he magically took all the autumn decor down and put up all the Christmas decor.

Thanksgiving

Yesterday we spent some time with our ESL students discussing the meaning of  Thanksgiving. We watched a video about the First Thanksgiving.  The we discussed things we were thankful for.  It was a nice day.  We even had a Thanksgiving Feast of  Hot Cheetos, Doritoes and Pumpkin Pie.  It was cute.

I am thankful for my husband, who is my best friend, my sweetheart and my rock.
I am thankful for my family, who I miss every day with them living so far away.
I am thankful for my true friends...especially the ones who stand by me and who are super fun!
I am thankful for my job and my coworkers, especially my para, who helps me every day.
I am thankful for my wonderful home and my buddies-my dachshund, Tuff; my border collie, O'Reilly; and my three fabulous horses, Aspen, Robin & Cowgirl.
I wish everyone out there a wonderful Thanksgiving!

AOC

I am really excited about our after school program.  I got an email for one of our high school club teachers.  She said the high school students were really excited about helping out. YAY!
Yesterday was our last day before our week off for Thanksgiving. One of our first grade students showed up in my room...so excited.  He said, "oh goodie, I am the first person here!"  It was pretty cool to see he was excited about stating after school.  Unfortunately, he missed the bus because we don't meet on Fridays.  Hee hee.  He was so adorable though.  Here are a few more pictures.

AOC-Academic Opportunity Center

At our school, we have many many high needs/at risk students.  This year, as an ESL teacher, I see that need more so than I have in the past as a first grade teacher.  So I have partnered with several of our high school clubs to create a homework/practice club.  It's been pretty neat because our teachers refer students to attend and the high school clubs provide the volunteers to help the younger students out.  The first two weeks were successful.  Not only are we helping the elementary students, but we are helping the older students out by giving them the opportunity to get some community service hours and also in the end they will get letters of recommendations from me.  YAY!YAY! YAY!

Dia de Los Muertos

So I am really excited that I just found the app for my iPad for Blogger.  It makes posting so much easier.  I took a ton of pictures from our week of Dia de los Muertos.  When I posted last, I just tried to do a few since I hadn't posted from my iPad.  So here are a few more pictures.

Dia de Los Muertos

This was a cool week in my room.  We had a very cultural week.  Instead of focusing on Halloween and all the scariness, we talked about the joy of remembering those we have lost.  We learned about Dia de Los Muertos.  We listened to Mariachi music, made calaveras, watched a short video that I found on Pinterest, ate authentic Mexican food and even set up an altar for those we have lost.  My class was so involved that they did not want the week to end.

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

This is one of my most favorite books.  Every Fall I love to read this to my students.  It's a very interactive Read Aloud.  It's also perfect for my ELLs.  You just need a pair of shoes (I use an old pair of my hubby's boots), a pair of pants, an old shirt, a pair of gloves, a hat and a plastic jack-o-lantern.  Then they need to clomp clomp their feet, clap clap their hands, shake shake and wiggle wiggle their bodies, nod nod their heads and say BOO!!!
Then when we're done reading the story, we build a scarecrow.  This year my classroom has two entryways so I keep one closed.  It has a little cubby-area.  So this is where my scarecrow sits in my wagon.  I don't know if it has scared any crows, but it has scared some teachers...especially if they're in the building after hours~in the dark~on the weekend...because it is life-size and if you aren't paying attention, it looks like a man sitting there when you glance quickly at it.  I've heard more screeches and gasps...and then laughs.

Uh Oh...Feeling A Little "Horse" Sub Plans

So after twenty-one years (OMG~Can it really be that long?!?!?!) of teaching I finally have got my act together.  I finally have all my sub plans together. Not that I haven't been prepared in the past...Because I have.  But now it's all in one theme.  And I'm happy to share with you.  This is all you need for a sub. You can get it
here at my Teachers Pay Teachers Shop
or here at my Teachers Notebook Shop

Just a little planning now and you'll be set for the year.  And the Farm/Ranch theme is so cute.  I think I'll use the same format but do it in an ocean theme and maybe a safari theme...but that requires some more time. We have Parent/Teacher Conferences this week and next , plus Halloween.
YIKES...I can't believe the first quarter is over already.  WOW.

An Apple A Day

Holy Smokes it's been a while.  I really am not a slacker.  True story...I have just been preoccupied with...with...well...life I guess.  My grandpa who I have blogged about has passed.  I miss him dearly but am glad he is finally done with the pain and discomfort.  He was truly a wonderful man.
My hubby is in a new job in a completely new field with a completely new schedule. That has taken some adjusting.
And most recently, we live in Colorado.  I'm sure you cannot have missed all the news about the flooding that has occurred here.  One of our most favorite places to visit, hang out, shop, ride, etc, etc, etc has been devastated.  One of the most scenic roads to drive on is GONE.  So sad.  We live about an hour away from there, but the water flows downhill and into the South Platte River.  AND our house is a half mile from the river.  Now let me tell you, we feel very VERY VERY fortunate.  The river came onto our land.  Our hay field became a lake-complete with ducks, geese and pelicans.  Luckily, we evacuated our horses and were ready to leave ourselves...but we were spared.  The river came onto our land and then receded fairly quickly.  Our bridge was also spared, with the road only closing for a few days.  Just yesterday, they finished repairing the road.
This is our hay field/lake.
This is the river flowing over the top of the highway a half mile from our house.

Enough bad news!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new position as ESL Teacher.  It's just that there is a ton of assessing and interpreting data and and and teaching.  WHEW! But it's all good.  As a matter of fact it's great. I am finally creating again.  Whoop Whoop!!!
I know it's a little late for apples, but it's still Fall.  I made this cute Apple Unit that you can get here at my Teachers Pay Teachers Store or here at my Teachers Notebook Store.

I am back (I think).  I am working with my new neighbor (our Art Teacher) and we are decorating our entire hallway with the help of our Music Teacher, our Computer Teacher, and our Librarian.  I hope to get some pictures taken and posted here. It's a work in progress, but it looks spooky so far!
